Frontiers expands its portfolio with the acquisition of Advanced Optical Technologies Journal -

Open-access publisher Frontiers has announced the acquisition of the esteemed journal Advanced Optical Technologies (AOT). Previously published by De Gruyter and operating under a hybrid model, AOT transitioned to gold open access when it joined Frontiers in June 2023.

Established in 2012, AOT was created to provide a fully peer-reviewed platform for publishing research in applied optics. With a focus on serving a specialized community, the journal caters to scientists as well as experts in industrial research and development.

Professor Roberto Morandotti from the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS), Canada, has taken on the role of incoming field chief editor for AOT.

Frontiers is dedicated to promoting open science, and the acquisition of AOT marks a significant step toward achieving this mission in the areas of optical design, engineering, and manufacturing. The journal began accepting submissions on June 30, 2023, and is already live on its new platform. As part of the acquisition, the entire article archive comprising more than 600 articles published by the previous publisher between 2012 and 2022 will be made openly and freely available. These articles will gradually be transferred to the Frontiers website over the coming weeks.

Researchers and practitioners in the field of optical technologies can now benefit from the enhanced accessibility and visibility that open access provides, further advancing scientific knowledge in this specialized domain.
