Publisher Future Science Group has announced a partnership with Publons, a website that allows experts to track, verify and receive recognition for every peer review they perform, a vital service that often goes unrecognised.
Peer review of journal articles is a vital step in the publication process, underpinning the quality of published work. However, the blinded nature of peer review often limits reviewers from receiving full credit for the work they have performed. In addition, experts often perform reviews for a wide array of different journals and publishing companies, making it hard to keep track of all their efforts.
Publons was set up in 2012 to help address this problem. Experts who join the site are able to add the reviews they have performed to a verified profile in a format they can include in promotion and funding applications, thereby allowing formal recognition for the work they have completed.
By partnering with Publons, Future Science Group reviewers will benefit from a seamless integration via ScholarOne Manuscripts, the submission and peer review system from Clarivate Analytics – allowing reviewers to opt-in to Publons with a simple check box during the review process, which allows reviews to be automatically verified and added to their Publons profile with no extra work for the reviewers. Reviewers who aren't yet members will also be able to easily join up and add their review.
