Goportis, the Leibniz Library Network for Research Information, and FIZ Karlsruhe - Leibniz-Institute for Information Infrastructure have announced a partnership agreement. Under the deal, the partners will combine their skills and forces considering the changes and challenges in the information landscape. Joint developments and processes are planned to provide innovative products and services as well as to support science in a more efficient and comprehensive way.
With Goportis and FIZ Karlsruhe, four important German infrastructure institutions will join forces. Their aim is to closely collaborate in developing, offering, and hosting new e-Science services in the future. The activities will focus on providing electronic content on a sustainable basis. Existing offers and services (e.g., eSciDoc, DataCite) will be combined and enhanced.
The first joint activities will focus on hosting. A large amount of digital publications from publishing houses will be processed. E-journals, e-books and databases will be stored, administered and made available to scientists via a sustainable infrastructure. Another project is to collaborate in the fields of long-term preservation and full-text provision.
Goportis is the name of the Leibniz Library Network for Research Information. Three German National Libraries are partners in Goportis. These are: TIB (German National Library of Science and Technology, Hannover), ZB MED (German National Library of Medicine, Cologne/Bonn) and ZBW (German National Library of Economics - Leibniz Information Centre for Economics, Kiel/Hamburg). The three German National Libraries and FIZ Karlsruhe are infrastructure institutions of the Leibniz Association.
