IBM and Pearson partner to launch AI-powered learning tools for global workforce and education -

IBM and Pearson have formed a global partnership to develop personalized learning products powered by AI for businesses, public organizations, and educational institutions. The collaboration responds to workforce challenges identified in Pearson research, which reports that inefficient career transitions and skills mismatches could cost the US economy $1.1 trillion in lost earnings each year.

The companies will build AI-powered learning tools using watsonx Orchestrate and watsonx Governance, offering solutions designed to support faster and more relevant skills development as AI reshapes work and learning. IBM will also assist Pearson in developing a custom AI-powered learning platform modeled on IBM Consulting Advantage, combining human expertise with AI assistants, agents, and assets to enhance workflows, productivity and support data-driven operations.

As IBM’s primary strategic partner for customer upskilling and workforce transformation, IBM customers and 270,000 employees will gain access to Pearson’s enterprise learning solutions. These include Credly for digital credentialing, Faethm for strategic workforce planning, and Pearson Professional Assessments, which delivers IBM professional certification exams worldwide.

The partnership also includes exploration of tools to verify the capabilities of AI agents, combining IBM’s experience in reliable and responsible AI with Pearson’s expertise in learning, skills development, and credentialing. The initiative aligns with Pearson’s strategy to build deeper relationships with select strategic partners to support customer outcomes, joint go-to-market efforts, and shared growth.
