IEEE, Elsevier and the Institution of Engineering and Technology join together to create recommendations regarding best practices -

IEEE, the world's largest professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology, is working with other publishing organisations, Elsevier and the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), to create recommendations regarding best practices to help ensure technical conference content quality. The recommendations can be found in IEEE's White Paper on Ensuring Conference Content Quality.

The aim of the recommended practices white paper is to bring forward best practices that will help to ensure that high-quality, scholarly conference content continues to be developed, published, and disseminated within the global information community for its own ultimate benefit.

On November 1, 2015, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) formally endorsed the White Paper on Ensuring Conference Content Quality, co-authored by Elsevier, IEEE, and the IET. In addition, ASCE contributed new content to the paper regarding its subject-matter scope and best practices in technical program development.

The white paper containing IEEE's recommendations for technical conference content quality include suggested guidelines regarding written quality requirements of conference proceedings content; selection of content: conference presentations and peer review; commercial or non-commercial publisher acceptance criteria for conference proceedings; conference proceedings content with respect to conference scope.
