Open access publisher BioMed Central has announced that its flagship journal Genome Biology passed a major milestone this week, increasing its Impact Factor to double figures in the Thomson Reuters 2012 Journal Citation Report (JCR). The new Impact Factor of 10.288 confirms its position as the top-ranked journal in BioMed Central's portfolio.
BMC Medicine, also one of BioMed Central's leading titles, increased its Impact Factor to 6.679, moving up to an impressive rank of 7th of 191 titles in the JCR category of General and Internal Medicine.
In all, 21 of BioMed Central and Chemistry Central journals received their first Impact Factors this year, meaning that 146 of the publisher's 261 journals now have Impact Factors. Of the journals which already had an impact factor, a significant majority increased it in this year's JCR.
