International Society of Sports Nutrition signs five-year agreement with MDPI for JISSN publishing from January 2027 -

The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) has announced a five-year agreement with MDPI under which publishing responsibilities for the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (JISSN) will transfer to MDPI beginning in January 2027. The agreement marks a new phase for ISSN and JISSN and includes a shared commitment to open access intended to keep sports nutrition research accessible, transparent, and impactful for researchers, practitioners, and athletes worldwide. It also provides for incentives for reviewers designed to support more timely peer review.

JISSN publishes research on the acute and chronic effects of sports nutrition and supplementation strategies on body composition, physical performance, and metabolism. Through support of JISSN’s open access format, MDPI will continue providing access to research on exercise and nutrition for scholars and the sporting community.

The journal has a 2024 Impact Factor of 3.9 and holds top quartile rankings for Sport Sciences (Q1) and Nutrition & Dietetics (Q2). It also has a 2024 CiteScore of 8.9 and a Q1 ranking in Scopus, and it will be added to MDPI’s US Clinical Medicine list alongside journals including Nutrients and Sports. MDPI has indicated that it will seek to preserve the journal’s established position in the sports and nutrition field while maintaining editorial rigor, transparency, and an efficient publishing process, and will support ISSN’s mission to provide science-based sports nutrition and supplementation.
