IOP Publishing adopts CRediT taxonomy across all journals -

IOP Publishing is implementing the Contributor Role Taxonomy (CRediT) across its portfolio of proprietary journals to improve transparency and recognition of author contributions. The taxonomy provides a standardized framework for identifying the specific roles individuals play in the creation and publication of scholarly work.

Authors will now be able to select from 14 defined contribution roles, including conceptualisation, data curation, project administration, software development, investigation, and various forms of writing. These classifications aim to provide a clearer account of each researcher's involvement in a publication.

The adoption of CRediT is intended to improve attribution and accountability by offering a consistent and discoverable structure for authorship information. Making contributor roles explicit supports research integrity and facilitates more accurate assessments by institutions and funding bodies. The initiative is aligned with broader efforts to improve transparency in scholarly publishing and support more comprehensive research evaluation practices.
