IReL renews commitment to open research infrastructure -

IReL has announced the renewal of its membership agreements with Jisc, the OAPEN Foundation, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) as part of its continued support for open research infrastructure. The new three-year agreements, covering 2025 to 2027, align with Ireland’s National Action Plan for Open Research 2022–2030, which emphasizes the importance of fostering open scholarly communication and bibliodiversity on an international scale.

The renewed agreements will support the following open infrastructures:

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ): This service integrates open access journals with major discovery tools and aims to increase the visibility, reputation, and impact of peer-reviewed OA scholarly research journals.

Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB): A central resource for discovering OA book publishers and freely accessible academic books, DOAB facilitates the integration of OA books into the global academic publishing ecosystem.

OAPEN Library: Managed by the OAPEN Foundation, this online library offers a curated collection of freely accessible academic books. It also provides resources like the OAPEN OA Books Toolkit, which supports authors in understanding OA book publishing.

• Jisc’s Open Policy Finder (formerly Sherpa Romeo): A trusted tool that aggregates publisher open access policies and provides summaries for journals. It is essential for managing institutional repositories of open access works.

By renewing these agreements, IReL reinforces its commitment to advancing open research practices, reducing financial barriers, and fostering global collaboration in scholarly communication.
