IRSST issues official guidance on the use of generative AI in scientific activities -

The Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) has released a policy on the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in scientific activities. This new policy aims to establish a framework for the responsible use of GenAI tools in both IRSST-funded and internal research activities.

Recognizing the growing role of GenAI in writing, data analysis, and scientific content generation, the policy addresses both the opportunities and risks associated with these technologies. It outlines principles to uphold scientific integrity, data confidentiality, intellectual property protection, and ethical standards, while promoting transparency and strategic application.

The policy applies to all stakeholders engaged in IRSST scientific endeavors, including internal researchers, staff, students, and external research partners. According to Sophie De Serres, Assistant to the Chief Scientific Officer, the policy will be reviewed and updated periodically to ensure alignment with evolving AI technologies and best practices.

By adopting this policy, IRSST reinforces its commitment to high-quality, ethical, and methodologically sound research. The guidance is positioned as a support mechanism to help the scientific community engage with GenAI responsibly, while maintaining public trust and upholding rigorous standards of knowledge production.
