Jisc, and academic publisher publisher Taylor & Francis have renewed an open research (OR) agreement offering significantly more publishing options for researchers.
The 'Taylor & Francis Read and Publish 2024-25' agreement, a two-year transformative deal, builds upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, which facilitated open access (OA) publishing for numerous UK researchers. This renewed partnership seeks to not only expand the scope of OR but also to amplify the impact of UK research, particularly in the humanities and social sciences (HSS) domains.
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by Taylor & Francis as one of the leading publishers in the HSS landscape, the agreement is poised to provide a crucial pathway to OA for researchers in fields that traditionally have limited access to funding compared to their counterparts in science, technology, and medicine disciplines.
Under the terms of the two-year deal, researchers affiliated with participating institutions will have the opportunity to publish OA across more than 2,400 Taylor & Francis journals. Notably, the agreement introduces access to 248 fully open access titles and opens avenues for publishing on open research platforms such as F1000 Research and Routledge Open Research.
The decision to shorten the agreement term to two years reflects a commitment to flexibility and adaptability, allowing for a responsive approach to the evolving landscape of OA agreements in the UK. This strategic move aligns with Jisc's ongoing review of transitional agreements and underscores a collective effort to address the evolving needs of the academic community.
All member institutions affiliated with Jisc are eligible to participate in this transformative partnership, further democratizing access to OA publishing opportunities and fostering a culture of open research across the UK academic landscape.
