JISC Collections Information Services purchases Springer Protocols -

The JISC Collections Information Service, which provides all publicly funded research institutions in the UK with digital learning and research content, has bought the Springer Protocols. With this, all higher education and research institutions in the UK can expect to obtain free access to the largest data collection in the field of life sciences from the years 2008 to 2012.

Currently, approximately 31,000 laboratory protocols can be seen in the Springer Protocols, most of them from the famous book series ‘Methods in Molecular Biology’.

Springer Protocols is said to be the largest collection of laboratory protocols with extensive search options. Laboratory protocols are used primarily in life sciences and biomedicine. They are considered to be the recipe for scientific experimental designs, which can be reconstructed by scientists in their own labs. The laboratory protocols are guidelines for the planning and execution of experiments. They describe safety tolerances, process equipment, statistical methods and standards of documentation and diagnostics.

The online format of Springer Protocols has been there since 2008. The number of laboratory protocols continues to grow. Initially, the content came from the six established book series, including Methods in Molecular Biology, Methods in Biotechnology, Methods in Molecular Medicine, Methods in Pharmacology and Toxicology, Neuroscience Methods and Springer Protocols Handbooks.
