JMIR Nursing calls for papers on ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nursing’ theme issue -

The esteemed JMIR Nursing, a peer-reviewed journal focusing on digital innovations within the realm of nursing, has issued a Call for Papers for a special theme issue centered on 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nursing.' This call presents an exceptional opportunity for nursing and healthcare professionals, researchers, and experts in AI to contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the integration of AI technologies in the nursing landscape.

With a firm grounding in original research and a keen focus on digital innovations, JMIR Nursing stands as a trusted platform in the nursing domain, with its articles indexed in renowned databases such as PubMed, PubMed Central, DOAJ, CINAHL, and INANE. The journal is recognized for its dedication to shedding light on technological advancements that shape the healthcare ecosystem, specifically within the realm of nursing.

The theme issue titled ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nursing’ aims to explore the revolutionary impact of AI on health care and nursing practices. As AI progressively revolutionizes the healthcare sector, nursing informaticists, practitioners, clinicians, educators, and innovators are increasingly leveraging AI to enhance patient care, streamline processes, and improve overall outcomes. AI technologies, ranging from chatbots to virtual assistants, hold the potential to assist nurses and health care teams in decision-making, information retrieval, and nursing interventions.

The scope of the theme issue encompasses a wide range of topics related to AI in nursing, including but not limited to: Innovative applications of AI in nursing; Utilization of large language models (e.g., ChatGPT) in nursing settings; Explainability of AI in nursing and patient care contexts; Ethical considerations in AI use within nursing practice; AI's impact on nursing practice, algorithms, and medical devices; AI's role in nursing education and patient education; and Evaluation of AI's effectiveness in nursing care support.

The call also invites discussions on the potential challenges posed by AI integration in nursing, such as algorithmic bias, technology trust, and ethical implications. Additionally, the journal seeks research that explores the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of AI algorithms in nursing contexts.

Notable out-of-scope topics include AI exclusively focused on physicians or patients.

Authors are encouraged to submit original research, literature reviews, and viewpoints related to AI in nursing. Preprints are highly recommended for peer review. All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer review process and accepted articles will be published as part of the special theme issue on AI in Nursing.

Interested authors can submit their contributions through the JMIR Nursing website by selecting the journal section titled ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nursing’ on or before October 31, 2023.
