Beginning in January 2027, Publisher Collections on JSTOR will expand from 22 to 36 participating publishers, with 14 new presses joining and all 22 renewing their participation from the program’s launch in January 2026. Library participation is also increasing, with institutions in 10 countries involved, ranging from community colleges and small private undergraduate institutions to large public universities.
Publisher Collections was developed in partnership with academic libraries and publishers as part of the Books at JSTOR model. It provides a streamlined way to acquire complete publisher‑specific sets from academic presses, offering perpetual JSTOR licenses to current‑year title sets, access to backlist titles for active participants, and an equitable tiered fee structure set by each publisher. To ensure predictable pricing, annual fee increases are capped at 5 percent; for 2027, the average increase is less than 3 percent. The program integrates ebooks with scholarly journals, primary sources, images, and multimedia on JSTOR, making them fully searchable.
Through July 31, 2026, the program sold 679 Publisher Collections, representing 1,555 new titles published in 2026 and 36,622 backlist titles from 22 publishers. Participating presses also made 2,112 open access titles available on JSTOR.
John Lenahan, Vice President of Publisher Relations for JSTOR, remarked that both publishers and libraries had indicated limited platform options for complete collections. He explained that Publisher Collections provides seamless access to all titles from a press on one platform, simplifying processes for presses, librarians, faculty, and researchers.
