Kudos, a service for maximizing the reach and impact of research publications, and Clarivate Analytics, formerly the Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters, have announced the results of a pilot integration between the Kudos platform and the ScholarOne publication workflow system. The companies partnered earlier this year to collect plain language summaries from authors at the point of submission; these summaries are automatically distributed to Kudos to streamline the process by which authors can increase the chances of their work being found, read, and cited.
Six publishers – Bioscientifica, The British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery (publishers of The Bone & Joint Journal), Canadian Science Publishing, Emerald, Future Science Group and Wiley – participated in the pilot programme, with a subset of journals for which authors were invited to add plain language summaries. The pilot was a success, with 42% of accepted authors choosing to add explanatory text; the quality of the summaries is also high, making it easier for a broader range of potential readers to find and understand the work, thereby helping to increase its impact.
The success of the pilot means Kudos and ScholarOne are now working towards making integration an option for all mutual clients of these systems.
