LIBER endorses ICOLC statement on AI licensing rights -

LIBER (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche – Association of European Research Libraries) has endorsed the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC) statement on AI in licensing, advocating for policies that protect research accessibility and user rights under EU law.

The ICOLC statement opposes restrictive AI clauses in licensing agreements that limit research capabilities. It calls for AI use to be legally permitted for non-commercial research, teaching, and equitable information access. LIBER supports multi-year licenses with adaptable AI clauses, ensuring compliance with evolving legal and technological standards.

This endorsement reinforces LIBER’s commitment to intellectual freedom and institutional rights in the digital research landscape, advocating for fair AI integration in scholarly licensing.
