Academic publisher Maney Publishing has announced that it has purchased and will publish CRANIO: The Journal of Craniomandibular & Sleep Practice from the beginning of 2014. Published quarterly, CRANIO (currently published in Chattanooga, Tennessee) claims to be the oldest and largest journal in the world devoted to temporomandibular disorders, and now also includes articles on all aspects of sleep medicine.
CRANIO is the official journal for The American Alliance of TMD Organizations; the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain (AACP); Tennessee C.R.A.N.I.O.; and Nederlandse Vereniging voor Gnathologie en Prothetische Tandheelkunde (NVGPT). In addition, the journal is offered at a discounted rate to all members of The American Alliance of TMD Organizations.
The journal will continue to be edited by its founder Dr. Riley Lunn, who has been the editor throughout the journal's 31-year history. Dr. Lunn has an extensive background in craniofacial pain and temporomandibular joint dysfunction studies. The journal covers sleep medicine and temporomandibular disorders, but is multidisciplinary, with editorial board members from all areas of medicine and dentistry, including general dentists, oral surgeons, orthopaedists, radiologists, orthodontists, chiropractors, professors and behavioural scientists, physical therapists, acupuncturists, and osteopathic and ear, nose and throat physicians.
