The Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) has been an active member of the AI Alliance since October 2025. The AI Alliance is an international initiative focused on the open, secure, and responsible development of artificial intelligence, aiming to advance AI research and innovation transparently, ethically, and for societal benefit. More than 100 members from companies, universities, research institutions, government organizations, and non-profits collaborate to democratize access to AI technologies and strengthen trust in their development.
The Alliance centers its activities on projects that provide secure development tools, promote open foundation models, and support education, research, and awareness-building around the opportunities, risks, and regulation of AI. Its work emphasizes open collaboration to advance global standards, pool resources, and build a diverse ecosystem for responsible AI development.
By joining the Alliance, the MPDL contributes the Max Planck Society’s expertise in Trusted and Open Data to the international exchange while strengthening its visibility and engagement in the global AI community. As its first concrete contribution, the MPDL is providing access to bloxberg, a decentralized blockchain used for timestamping and certifying research data and results and verifying provenance. This contribution supports sustainable partnerships and future initiatives within the Alliance.
Through its participation, the MPDL is contributing to efforts that promote open, transparent, and trustworthy AI ecosystems worldwide.
