Education materials publisher McGraw-Hill Education, US, has announced seamless integration of its Connect platform and Blackboard Learn using certified standards initiated by IMS Global Learning Consortium at the HigherEdTECH summit. IMS Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) v1.0 seeks to provide a single framework or standard way of integrating learning applications with platforms like learning management systems.
McGraw-Hill is reported to be one of the first major educational content providers to adopt the LTI framework. By doing so it seeks to increase options for students and instructors when selecting learning applications; reduce support costs for institutions; and enable easy integration of applications within the learning system or portal.
The partnership between Blackboard and McGraw-Hill Higher Education is expected to leverage the strengths of both organisations to develop a best-of-breed integration between Blackboard Learn and McGraw-Hill digital content and tools. The alliance is further projected to preserve the spirit of academic freedom and openness.
The IMS Global Learning Consortium seeks to advance technology that can affordably scale and improve educational participation and attainment. To ensure that the 'Learning Impact' of technology-enabled innovation is achieved around the world, IMS' community of educational institutions, suppliers and government organisations reportedly develop open interoperability standards. They also seek to support adoption with technical services and encourage adoption through programmes that highlight effective practices.
