McGraw Hill expands AI-Powered learning tools for higher education -

McGraw Hill is expanding its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered offerings for higher education with new study resources in its Connect digital course solution and a partnership with Breakout Learning to support student discussions, classroom participation, and personalized feedback.

The expanded capabilities in Connect enable students in select courses to access AI-generated study materials based on their assigned McGraw Hill course content. Available resources include text summaries, audio podcasts, chapter overviews, key-term lists, and ungraded knowledge checks designed to reinforce understanding and help students prepare for classes, assignments, and exams.

The study materials are accessible through Learning Studio, a personalized hub within Connect that allows students to access and revisit resources without leaving their course environment. The text summaries can also incorporate notes taken by students within Connect to provide study materials tailored to their learning activities.

The new features build on McGraw Hill’s existing portfolio of AI-powered learning tools, including AI Reader, which the company reports has been used by more than 3 million students since its launch in 2024. The expanded capabilities are available for select courses.

McGraw Hill has also partnered with Breakout Learning to introduce interactive small-group discussions and individual oral assignments supported by AI-enabled feedback. The collaboration is intended to help instructors assess students’ understanding, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Through Breakout Learning’s virtual platform, students participate in guided discussions that require them to apply course concepts in real time. The platform’s AI-powered feedback tools help instructors monitor participation and comprehension while providing insights into student progress and skill development.

Breakout Learning reports that 90% of students using its modules complete their assigned reading before the corresponding session. The company presents this figure as an indicator of student preparation for classroom discussions.

The expanded study resources and the partnership reflect a broader focus on using AI in higher education to support personalized learning and assessment. The tools are intended to provide students with additional ways to review course material while helping instructors evaluate how learners understand and apply concepts.
