MDPI has acquired three Swiss journals from the former publisher Editores Medicorum Helveticorum (EMH): Swiss Archives of Neurology, Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (SANPP), Primary and Hospital Care (PHC), and Cardiovascular Medicine.
The publisher has released its first issues of SANPP (Volume 176, Issue 1) and PHC (Volume 25, Issue 1), following the relaunch of Cardiovascular Medicine late last year. All three journals are available on MDPI’s open access platform, free to read, share, and download.
Founded in 1917, SANPP has a long history of facilitating clinical and scientific exchange in Switzerland and internationally. The journal has published work from several notable scholars, including Nobel Prize winners Walter Rudolf Hess and Rita Levi-Montalcini.
PHC provides a platform for primary and hospital healthcare providers, focusing on clinical practice, education, and health service perspectives. The journal is currently in discussions with a new editor-in-chief to guide its future development.
Carla Aloè, head of societies and acquisitions at MDPI, noted that PHC strengthens MDPI’s healthcare portfolio, joining titles such as Hospitals and Trends in Public Health. She emphasized that the journal’s role is to combine scientific rigor with practical relevance, supporting healthcare outcomes and Swiss research under open science principles.
Cardiovascular Medicine transferred to MDPI in 2025, beginning with Volume 28, Issue 1. The journal has since appointed a new editorial board of Swiss and international experts and established collaborations with the Swiss Society of Perfusion and the Swiss Society of Cardiac Surgery.
Since 2020, MDPI has published more than 17,700 articles affiliated with Swiss research institutions, with over 15,000 indexed in Web of Science and Scopus. The publisher also works with 642 editorial board members in Switzerland, including 14 editors-in-chief and 31 section editors-in-chief.
Aloè added that the acquisition of these journals expands MDPI’s collaboration with the Swiss academic community and welcomed the involvement of editorial board members, authors, and reviewers in this new phase.
