MSU and Cambridge University Press partner to expand reach of MSU research publications -

Montana State University (MSU) and Cambridge University Press have collaborated to reach wider audiences of MSU research publications. The new agreement, known as a ‘read and publish’ agreement, is the first of its kind for MSU. Cambridge University Press is the publishing business of the University of Cambridge, one of the world’s leading research institutions.

Under the terms of the three-year agreement, MSU authors will collectively be able to publish up to seven articles during the first year, up to eight articles during the second year and up to nine articles during the third year in Cambridge University Press’ hybrid or fully open access journals. In a hybrid journal, some of the articles are free for anyone to access, and some require a subscription; in fully open access journals, all articles in the journal are free for anyone to access.

In addition, the agreement will continue to allow MSU faculty, students and staff full and permanent access to read articles from Cambridge University Press journals. Bozeman community members and others can also access these journals by using a computer on the MSU campus.

The new agreement will cost roughly the same amount the MSU Library was already paying for a traditional subscription to Cambridge University Press journals.

More information about the MSU Library’s support for information access can be found at the Library’s Negotiating Principles for Information Access webpage lib.montana.edu/services/information-access/collections/negotiating-principles/. Specifics about the agreement, including which Cambridge journals it covers, can be found at cambridge.org/core/services/open-access-policies/read-and-publish-agreements/oa-agreement-montana-state-university.
