NHS Scotland staff and students now gain access to latest clinical evidence with DynaMed Plus -

NHS Education for Scotland’s Knowledge Services has announced that EBSCO Health’s DynaMed Plus is now available to all NHS Scotland staff and students, offering clinicians with innovative technology for point-of-care decision support. This gives users access to the most current, evidence-based information available when they are making healthcare decisions.

DynaMed Plus is updated daily to produce a collection of the most current evidence curated from more than 500 medical journals. It incorporates National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) guidelines. It also integrates with drug information in the British National Formulary to ensure that local requirements are linked with international research to provide the best decision support information for staff and students in Scotland. The Royal College of General Practitioners has awarded DynaMed Accreditation as a learning tool so General Practitioners who are members of the RCGP can use DynaMed to support their revalidation and earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.

In addition to including the most current and relevant evidence, DynaMed Plus has features and a structure to speed the time to answer for users. The bulleted summary of topics offers the most concise, evidence-based recommendations with easily accessible supporting references. Additionally, it includes a semantic search functionality and a “Follow” feature that allows users to set up alerts when topics are updated with new evidence and guidelines.

Physicians are relying on smartphones more and more so the DynaMed Plus mobile app is free and available for Android and iOS platforms. The mobile app is designed to operate regardless of network connectivity to help overcome an issue that many physicians face with inconsistent mobile service. DynaMed Plus will be updated when it is connected to the network but once content is downloaded, a physician can use the mobile app even if there is a poor signal or no signal at all.

Released earlier this year, DynaMed Plus builds upon the strengths of DynaMed™, which has been an NHS Scotland preferred point-of-care resource since 2012. Other EBSCO Health resources available to NHS Scotland staff and students include Nursing Reference Center™ Plus and Rehabilitation Reference Center™.
