The Charlesworth Group has announced that Nature Publishing Group's (NPG) new online open access journal, Scientific Reports, will use its XML production workflow, tailored to NPG's goals and specifications, to publish original papers judged to be technically valid in all areas of the natural sciences. The goal of Scientific Reports is to facilitate the rapid publication of research of interest to a broad range of researchers and to enable readers to comment on papers after publication.
Enabled by rapid and expert XML tagging and production, readers of Scientific Reports will be able to use advanced search functions as well as 'cited-by' links that reveal where papers are being cited. The journal website will also include most-downloaded, most-emailed, and most-blogged lists and all papers publishing in Scientific Reports will be deposited in PubMed Central. The new journal reflects the efforts of both NPG and The Charlesworth Group to leverage the demands of scientists and the public to open science research to faster and broader review.
NPG and The Charlesworth Group have worked together for five years, tailoring The Charlesworth Group's XML typesetting tools to meet NPG's stringent requirements for high quality, and rapid production. The Charlesworth Group supports NPG and other international publishers, such as PLoS, in their efforts to bring new science to light quickly in forms that researchers, policy makers, and the public can access and use.
