Non-profit global library cooperative OCLC has signed agreements with leading publishers from around the world to add metadata for high-quality electronic and print books, journals, databases and learning materials that will make their content discoverable through WorldCat Discovery.
The inclusion of authoritative publications and educational materials supports libraries in service to researchers, faculty, students and information seekers around the world.
OCLC has agreements in place with 350 publishers and content providers to supply metadata to facilitate discovery and access to key resources. OCLC recently signed agreements with the content providers include: Begell House, Inc.; Captise BV; Digital Theatre; Edinburgh University Press; The Electrochemical Society; Knowledge Unlatched; Manchester University Press; Mango Languages; PLOS (Public Library of Science); and The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research.
Metadata from many of these publishers will also be made available to users through other OCLC services, including WorldCat.org, based on individual agreements. Details about how this metadata may be used in library management workflows will be communicated to OCLC users as the data is available.
By providing metadata and other descriptive content, these partnerships help libraries represent their electronic and physical collections more completely and efficiently.
Available as a stand-alone service or as part of WorldShare Management Services, WorldCat Discovery provides over 3.5 billion records of electronic, digital and physical resources, including articles, books, dissertations and audiovisual materials in support of libraries and information seekers.
