Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) has announced continued growth in the 2016 release of the Journal Citation Reports (source: 2015 Web of Science Data). Driven by its mission to support excellence in research and education, OUP now has 233 titles receiving an Impact Factor, with 21.8% of journals ranked in the top 10% of at least one subject category.
Four journals received their first Impact Factors - National Science Review – Impact Factor: 8.000; Journal of Legal Analysis – Impact Factor: 2.333; Current Legal Problems – Impact Factor: 1.069; and Law, Probability and Risk - Impact Factor: 0.594. 50% of OUP journals saw increases on their previous Impact Factors.
OUP now has six journals ranked at the top of their subject categories - British Journal of Anaesthesia – 1st in Anesthesiology; African Affairs – 1st in Area Studies; The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences & Medical Sciences – 1st in Gerontology; American Historical Review – 1st in History; Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory – 1st in Public Administration; and Human Reproduction Update – 1st in Obstetrics & Gynecology, and 1st in Reproductive Biology.
Both The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences & Medical Sciences and Human Reproduction Update retained their number one rankings in their respective categories (Gerontology and Reproductive Biology and Obstetrics & Gynecology) while the British Journal of Anaesthesia is now the leading journal in the Anesthesiology category with an Impact Factor of 5.616. The publisher also witnessed strong results across their oncology portfolio with three journals positioned in the top 10% of the category: JNCI: Journal of the National Cancer Institute (9th), Annals of Oncology (11th), Neuro-Oncology (19th). International Immunology's Impact Factor has also increased to 3.031, up by 20% from last year. Finally, the Journal of Travel Medicine received its first Impact Factor since joining Oxford University Press; now 1.880, up from last year's score of 1.579.
FEMS Microbiology Reviews now ranks 4th in Microbiology with an Impact Factor of 13.687, while Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society continues as a top-tier astronomy journal with an Impact Factor of 4.952. The Journal of Economic Entomology and Environmental Entomology both enjoyed increases in their Impact Factors, now with scores of 1.609 and 1.315, respectively. Finally Law, Probability and Risk received its first impact factor of 0.594, as did National Science Review with a score of 8.000.
The Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory retained its number one position in the category of Public Administration, as did African Affairs in the subject of Area Studies. The Quarterly Journal of Economics is also now ranked number two in Economics. Additionally, the Social Science Japan Journal saw an increase to 0.333; up by 47% from last year Impact Factor score.
Applied Linguistics saw a 123.6% increase in its Impact Factor this year, going from 1.453 to 3.250 and is now ranked 2nd in Linguistics. This is up 23 places on last year's results. Past & Present also saw strong results moving from 17th to 10th in the History category.
Three journals from our Law portfolio received their first Impact Factors: Current Legal Problems, Law, Probability and Risk, and the Journal of Legal Analysis, the last of which ranks 15th in the Law category with an Impact Factor of 2.333. This places the journal in the 90th percentile in its subject category. The Chinese Journal of International Law and Medical Law Review both saw increases of more than 0.5, now enjoying Impact Factors of 1.186 and 1.156, respectively.
