Oxford University Press (OUP) and Karger Publishers have confirmed that the acquisition of Karger by OUP, announced in early November, has closed, resulting in Karger now being fully owned by OUP and integrated into the broader OUP organization.
The acquisition brings together a shared focus on quality and scholarly integrity and creates an opportunity to increase the reach and impact of Karger’s academic and research publishing in medicine and health sciences. OUP is a department of the University of Oxford and is described as one of the largest and oldest university press publishers in the world. The organizations have indicated that the transaction represents an important point in their histories, grounded in their combined publishing expertise, reputations for quality, and shared commitment to scholarly integrity.
In the coming months, OUP and Karger intend to determine the most effective ways to work together. All existing contacts remain unchanged, and the 2026 sales renewal process continues as normal for both Karger and OUP subscriptions.
