CHORUS and Portland Press, the publishing arm of the Biochemical Society, have announced that Portland Press has joined CHORUS as a new member. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening trusted research infrastructure through collaboration, open standards, and practical solutions that support the global scholarly communications community.
As an independent society publisher, Portland Press has long focused on advancing molecular biosciences through scholarly publishing. By joining CHORUS, it becomes part of an international network of publishers, funders, institutions, and service providers working to improve research discoverability, interoperability, compliance, and long‑term stewardship of the scholarly record.
The collaboration emphasizes the importance of trusted infrastructure and high‑quality metadata in making research easier to find, connect, assess, and reuse. CHORUS supports organizations by reducing administrative burdens and building on existing standards and workflows, thereby improving transparency and aligning with evolving research policies and public access requirements.
Howard Ratner, Executive Director of CHORUS, explained that Portland Press and the Biochemical Society have a long history of advancing scholarly communication in ways that benefit the research community. He noted that welcoming Portland Press to CHORUS’ membership strengthens connections among publications, research outputs, institutions, funders, and metadata that make research more discoverable and reusable.
Professor Nigel Hooper, Chair of the Portland Press Board, stated that the organization continually seeks ways to make publishing workflows more efficient while maintaining high standards of quality and integrity. He added that joining CHORUS enables collaboration on shared infrastructure that benefits all stakeholders in scholarly communication.
