ResearchGate partners with Unisa Press to expand access to South African open access journals -

ResearchGate and Unisa Press have announced a new Journal Home partnership that will make all 10 of Unisa Press’ open access journals available on the ResearchGate platform, expanding global access to scholarly publications produced by the University of South Africa.

The collaboration marks ResearchGate’s first partnership with a South African publisher and is intended to increase the visibility of Unisa Press’ open access journal portfolio while supporting the dissemination of high-quality scholarly research to an international audience. Through the agreement, Unisa Press journals will be discoverable by ResearchGate’s community of more than 25 million registered researchers.

Unisa Press’ open access titles span a wide range of academic disciplines, including nanoscience, literature, education, and business. Making these journals available through ResearchGate is expected to extend the global reach of research published by the university press and improve accessibility for researchers across regions and subject areas.

As part of the Journal Home partnership, newly published open access articles from Unisa Press will be shared immediately on the ResearchGate platform, enabling rapid access for the research community. The journals will also receive dedicated Journal Profiles and prominent branding across ResearchGate, supporting increased awareness of the publisher’s scholarly output.

The partnership includes automatic upload of published articles to author profiles, allowing authors to track readership and engagement with their research. In addition, ongoing engagement throughout the research lifecycle is expected to support stronger connections between journals, authors, and the wider scholarly community, with the aim of attracting new submissions.

ResearchGate has positioned the collaboration as a step toward broadening access to African scholarship within global scholarly publishing networks. Unisa Press, as the publishing division of the University of South Africa, continues to focus on disseminating peer-reviewed research that serves both regional and international audiences through open access models.

The Journal Home program is designed to support publishers in increasing discoverability, engagement, and reach of open access journals by integrating published content directly into ResearchGate’s research discovery and networking environment.
