The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has adopted Wolters Kluwer Health’s UpToDate® Enterprise Edition as its primary clinical decision support (CDS) tool. This marks the first deployment of the enterprise-level product within the NHS system. The Trust oversees two acute hospitals and seventeen community hospitals across North, Mid, and East Devon, plus Exeter, with capacity exceeding 1,100 beds. The decision aligns with the Trust’s strategy to integrate digital technologies that enhance healthcare quality and provider support.
UpToDate Enterprise Edition delivers unified clinical guidance and resources accessible to the entire care team. Its AI-enhanced search enables clinicians to obtain precise, natural-language answers quickly, reducing time spent navigating large information volumes. The platform also includes an analytics dashboard, offering organizational insights that inform efficiency improvements and professional education initiatives.
Trust leadership noted that integrating an evidence-based CDS would reduce variability in care, support timely diagnoses, and optimize resource use—linking faster decision-making at the point of care to better patient outcomes and more efficient healthcare delivery. They emphasized the potential for improved medical education and reinforced clinical confidence.
Wolters Kluwer highlighted that UpToDate Enterprise Edition is designed for forward-thinking healthcare systems seeking seamless clinical workflows, enriched content delivery, and rapid access to trusted medical information. The solution combines AI, curated content, and analytics to support comprehensive clinician needs.
Over 100 independent studies have documented that use of UpToDate leads to measurable clinician time savings, reduced diagnostic errors, decreased length of hospital stay, and fewer unnecessary tests, affirming its impact on quality and efficiency in care settings.
