Royal Society and ResearchGate collaboration: successful trial phase leads to extended scope of partnership -

ResearchGate, the professional network for researchers, and The Royal Society, the UK’s national science academy and the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence, have expanded the partnership that sees all articles from the Royal Society’s ten-journal portfolio syndicated directly to ResearchGate.

From the outset, the goal of the partnership has been to increase the reach and impact of Royal Society publications among a highly relevant audience. The decision to now broaden the partnership to include all Royal Society journals is based on the success of an initial trial phase, during which content was syndicated from two open-access journals, and resulted in a 64% increase in the usage of the syndicated content on the ResearchGate platform, as measured via COUNTER-compliant reporting.

As a result, the partnership is today being extended to cover the eight hybrid journals that the Royal Society publishes. This will provide all ResearchGate members on-platform access to the open-access articles in these journals. ResearchGate members subscribing to the journals will also have on-platform access to all articles – the result being all backlist and frontlist content from all of the journals in The Royal Society’s portfolio being made available on ResearchGate, encompassing more than 101,000 articles.

As part of this expanded partnership, some of the Royal Society’s journals will also benefit from an enhanced presence on ResearchGate through a clear presentation of the journal on all of its associated article pages, as well as a dedicated page for each journal that is integrated into the ResearchGate network. This integration will increase the visibility of each journal with its relevant audience on an ongoing basis, and will provide researchers with the ability to learn more about each journal, its scope, and the community around it, as well as understand its metrics and publishing policies.

ResearchGate is a popular platform for researchers from around the world and the collaboration will make it even easier for them to access the international research published in the Royal Society journals helping the Society achieve its fundamental purpose of recognizing, promoting, and supporting excellence in science.
