ChronosHub, an online platform catering to the needs of the research community, and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) have joined forces to introduce a pre-submission Journal Guide. This collaboration aims to provide authors with greater clarity regarding open access conditions before they submit their manuscripts.
The RSC takes pride in its Read & Publishing agreements with institutions in 32 countries. However, with an expanding range of publisher agreements, authors often face challenges in keeping track of the journals where their article processing charges are covered. The ChronosHub Journal Guide addresses this issue by allowing authors to select their institution, which then advises them on the journals covered by their agreement. In cases where journals are not covered, the guide provides information on the associated prices.
The Journal Guide service will become available to authors at the end of June 2023.
In addition to offering information on agreement eligibility, the platform enables authors to search and filter all RSC journals based on various criteria, allowing them to identify the most suitable journal for their submission. The tool also flags funder compliance after the selection of a funder.
The Royal Society of Chemistry has set a goal to make all its journals open access within the next five years. Signing Read & Publish agreements is a crucial part of the society's plan to transition to open access. Ensuring the optimal utilization of these agreements and raising authors' awareness about them are essential to fulfilling their mission. The ChronosHub Journal Guide will be a valuable tool to share with all the organizations that have signed agreements with the RSC, empowering their authors to make the most of these agreements.
