RSC and Chemical Society of Japan renew partnership agreement -

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ) have renewed their partnership agreement through a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement, originally signed in 2010, was re-established during RSC CEO Dr Helen Pain's visit to Tokyo. The agreement aims to maximise opportunities for chemical scientists, build connections between the two countries, and tackle major issues affecting the world today, including sustainability.

Dr Pain also attended the Japan Editorial Board Summit, where she gave a speech on sustainability and encouraged attendees to consider the ways in which chemistry can help achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. She highlighted the RSC's collaborations with Japanese organizations on environmental, healthcare, sanitation, education, and equality issues.

The RSC and the CSJ have collaborated on several events and initiatives over the years, including the Chemical Sciences and Society summit, which will be hosted in Japan, and the annual CSJ-RSC symposia. The two societies also recognize talented young Japanese chemists with joint PCCP prizes.

Dr Pain expressed her pleasure at the opportunity to re-establish connections with a key scientific ally on the other side of the world. She thanked the editorial boards for their contributions and shared her vision for the future in print, submitting an article for publication in the June edition of the prestigious journal Chemistry and Industry.
