ScienceOpen has partnered with the Sudanese Researchers Foundation (SRF) to begin a new journal within the ScienceOpen platform, making it the second journal to be completely powered by ScienceOpen. The support provided by ScienceOpen will include a manuscript submission and peer-review management system, production tracking, editorial operation support, open-access hosting, metadata services, and promotional campaigns for SRF’s new journal, the African Journal of Engineering & Technology (AJET).
AJET is an open-access, peer-reviewed, and multidisciplinary journal that aims to serve as a platform for researchers, professionals, and policymakers from a variety of backgrounds to discuss and disseminate applied research in engineering and technology that addresses Africa’s sustainable development. Contributions published in the Journal address Africa’s development through sustainable engineering and technology and present solutions based on critical reviews, case studies, and qualitative and quantitative research. The Journal recognises the importance of a multidisciplinary (and sometimes even cross-disciplinary) approach when tackling Africa’s complex challenges such as poverty, climate change, energy access, water resources management, energy-water-food nexus, and the urban environment.
ScienceOpen’s mission at the SRF has always been to empower scientists and researchers in Sudan and Africa and emphasise the role of scientific research in Africa’s development. With the launch of AJET, ScienceOpen seeks to develop a platform for disseminating applied research that highlights pathways towards sustainable development in Africa. Launching the journal is one of the most important and long-awaited initiatives of the SRF and will be instrumental in showcasing the research output of Sudanese researchers and scientists.
While ScienceOpen has experience in creating and running the operations of UCL Open: Environment, AJET will be the first hosted journal within ScienceOpen performing blinded peer-review with the ScienceOpen technology. ScienceOpen’s technical partners have built the infrastructure to perform all services necessary for the AJET editorial workflow during the blinded peer-review process, opening up new possibilities for publishing on ScienceOpen. This new infrastructure makes ScienceOpen capable of providing more diverse publishing solutions for all types of publishers.
The ScienceOpen technology can provide a state-of-the-art home for this new journal and best metadata practices for the widest possible distribution. By powering AJET on ScienceOpen, AJET’s publications will be integrated in the open, interactive discovery environment of ScienceOpen that will increase its dissemination while simultaneously connecting Sudanese researchers to the global scientific community. ScienceOpen’s next-generation publishing and networking capacities will enable communication in an open and transparent manner between Sudanese researchers. This will bolster the Sudanese researcher community, ensuring continuity and the transfer of knowledge to future generations of researchers in Sudan.
