The Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research (Sikt) has renewed its national agreement with MDPI under the Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP). This renewal secures continued support for open access publishing across 36 participating institutions in Norway, offering discounts on article processing charges (APCs) for publications in more than 460 MDPI journals. The agreement is set to remain in effect for one year, reinforcing the country’s efforts to promote accessible and high-quality research dissemination.
Kristiania University of Applied Sciences joins a cohort of established participants, including the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the University of Bergen, the University of Oslo, and the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. The inclusion of new institutions signals a growing national collaboration that strengthens Norway’s open science infrastructure.
Institutions participating in the agreement benefit from centralized APC funding, which provides deeper discounts and fosters more sustainable approaches to open access publishing. This model not only reduces costs for researchers but also supports strategic investment in scholarly communication aligned with national policy objectives.
The renewed partnership builds on Norway’s broader achievements in advancing open access. In 2023, 84% of the country’s research outputs were published openly, demonstrating a sustained commitment to open science principles. Through this agreement, MDPI and Sikt continue to support efforts that enable publicly funded research to remain freely available to the global scholarly community.
