Spain’s Health Ministry renews partnership with Wolters Kluwer to strengthen healthcare equity -

Spain’s Ministry of Health has renewed its long-standing collaboration with Wolters Kluwer Health to provide clinicians nationwide with access to UpToDate, an evidence-based clinical decision support platform. This renewed agreement reflects a decade of commitment to reducing variability in patient care and ensuring equitable access to high-quality medical information across Spain’s healthcare system.

In 2023, clinicians in Spain’s National Health System turned to UpToDate nearly 4.8 million times—a remarkable increase of more than 200% compared to 2013, when the partnership began. UpToDate provides healthcare professionals with the latest, evidence-based answers to clinical questions, enabling them to make informed decisions on treatments, diagnostics, and medication consultations, whether at top-tier hospitals or rural healthcare centers.

The Ministry of Health’s renewed agreement underscores its dedication to improving healthcare outcomes and reducing variability in care delivery. By offering system-wide access to the latest medical knowledge, the partnership ensures that clinicians—spanning nearly 400 hospitals and over 13,000 primary care centers—have the tools needed to deliver consistent, evidence-based care to patients across Spain.

The renewed partnership introduces the latest generation of UpToDate, featuring interactive clinical guides designed to address common conditions often linked to variability in care. Additionally, it incorporates concise laboratory monographs that assist clinicians in interpreting abnormal test results and determining appropriate next steps. These enhancements aim to streamline decision-making processes and further minimize discrepancies in patient care across the healthcare system.

Since 2013, UpToDate has supported clinicians across Spain in achieving better health outcomes, reducing medication errors, and lowering healthcare costs. Its widespread use demonstrates the increasing reliance on technology to bridge gaps in medical knowledge and practice.

As Spain continues to prioritize healthcare excellence, this renewed partnership positions its medical professionals to deliver consistent, evidence-based care to patients nationwide.
