The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is thrilled to announce that the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) have officially joined the ORCID Canada Consortium (ORCID-CA). This significant development underscores a collective commitment to integrating ORCID identifiers into Canadian research systems, facilitating greater efficiency and impact in research management.
As longstanding members of the Canadian PID Advisory Committee (CPIDAC), SSHRC and NSERC’s integration into ORCID-CA marks an important milestone in the adoption of persistent identifiers (PIDs) in Canada. The ORCID-CA community has long recognized the importance of funder integration for the broader adoption of PIDs, and this move is a critical step forward.
ORCID provides unique, persistent identifiers for researchers, enabling seamless integration across various organizations and simplifying the aggregation of research outputs. This initiative aims to significantly reduce the administrative burden on researchers, allowing them to focus more on their work and less on managing data.
The inclusion of SSHRC and NSERC in ORCID-CA aligns with Canada’s persistent identifier strategy, reinforcing the country’s commitment to improving research efficiency and transparency. By supporting ORCID-CA, SSHRC and NSERC are contributing to a more streamlined and effective research ecosystem in Canada.
This partnership heralds a new era of collaboration and efficiency in Canadian research, benefiting researchers, institutions, and the broader academic community.
