STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced that it has renewed its publishing partnership with the American College of Cardiology (ACC), a nonprofit medical society in the field of cardiovascular research. The Society has been publishing with Elsevier for more than two decades as part of a mutually beneficial relationship.
As part of this new deal, Elsevier will publish the society's flagship journal, Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), for the next ten years. Also included are the ACC's two specialty journals, JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging and JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, both launched by the ACC and Elsevier in 2008.
Elsevier has published JACC since its inception in 1983. Published weekly, JACC has the highest readership (according to PERQ/HCI research), largest circulation and second highest impact factor (11.054) in its specialty. JACC articles were cited nearly 53,000 times in 2007 and full text article downloads via ACCs CardioSource and Elsevier's ScienceDirect exceeded 6.4 million. An additional 17,000 articles were downloaded for free in developing regions of the world during 2008 through the Research4Life (formerly HINARI) information philanthropy programme run by the United Nations.
