The British Library selects Clarivate to enhance library services and discovery platforms -

Clarivate Plc, a global leader in transformative intelligence, has announced that the British Library has chosen Clarivate to provide next-generation library services and discovery platforms. As part of this new collaboration, the British Library will implement Clarivate’s Alma, Primo VE, and Rapido systems, which will offer a more cohesive, streamlined, and secure user experience while supporting the Library's evolving needs.

Founded in 1973, the British Library is the United Kingdom’s national library and one of the largest libraries in the world. It houses an extensive collection of 170 million items ranging from books and journals to patents, maps, and digital publications. The British Library has long been a cornerstone of research and scholarship, making this strategic decision to upgrade its library services platform a significant step forward in enhancing its offerings to the academic and research communities.

After 20 years of successful partnership, during which Clarivate provided the Aleph Library Management System and Primo discovery services, the British Library is transitioning to a more modern and integrated platform. With this new agreement, the Library will become the 43rd National and State library worldwide to adopt the Alma platform. Alma’s unified system will simplify Library operations, improve user experiences, and enable the Library to continue expanding its services well into the future.

The implementation of Primo VE will further enhance the discoverability of the British Library’s vast collection, ensuring that users can access content with ease and efficiency. Additionally, the adoption of Rapido will transform the interlibrary loan system, streamlining resource sharing among academic institutions and fostering greater collaboration within the global research community.
