The Charlesworth Group has announced an agreement with SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) to provide highly customisable XML-based typesetting solutions to the SciELO portfolio of journals.
SciELO, one of the world's leading proponents of Open Access publishing, has selected The Charlesworth Group to support its aim to further the development of a common methodology for the preparation, storage, dissemination and evaluation of scientific literature in electronic format.
Through integration of its unique AutoProof tool and other cutting edge content management solutions, The Charlesworth Group will now be able to provide SciELO journals with the benefit of a variety of cost-effective XML outputs, including PMC compliant XML, and furthering their ability to reduce the paper-to-publication timelines.
It has been a long-term aim of SciELO to ensure that the XML within its bibliographic database meets international publishing standards, in particular those of PMC. This agreement with The Charlesworth Group is a significant step in meeting that goal. The agreement offers a solution to SciELO journals which will enable them to create internationally-compliant XML and further their prominence within the global research community.
The Group is also assisting SciELO with language editing services, offering authors of a number of SciELO publishers and journals its Language Editing service, which is designed to improve the quality of the written English of academic research papers before submission, and in turn helping to reduce in-house editing times and increase authors' chances of acceptance. While SciELO still publishes many of its journals in Spanish or Portuguese, English language journals make up a significant proportion of its publishing portfolio.
