The Physiological Society and Wiley have signed a new publishing agreement for The Journal of Physiology and Experimental Physiology that has extended their partnership through 2036. The agreement continues a collaboration that began in 2003 and is intended to support the publication of research that advances understanding of biological systems and contributes to improvements in human health.
The Physiological Society, established by Royal Charter, focuses on advancing physiology through high-quality publishing, strong research communities, and support for authors at all career stages. Its two journals remain central to this mission and continue to influence developments in the field. Together, they generate more than 7 million full-text article views annually and provide researchers, educators, and students worldwide with peer-reviewed content that links physiological science to everyday health and well-being.
The partnership is set to maintain improved production timelines, strengthened research integrity tools, and enhanced pathways for readers to discover and navigate published content. The Physiological Society has indicated that physiology is contributing to current advances in understanding how the body functions, translating complex biological systems into insights that support progress in human health. It has also noted that both journals have published influential research for decades and are expected to remain central to the discipline as the society approaches its 150th year in 2026.
Wiley has reported that the renewal reflects a continuation of more than two decades of collaboration through significant industry changes, including the transition to open access and the adoption of AI-driven tools designed to support research discovery, and that the agreement aligns with a shared commitment to delivering high-quality scientific content.
