Project MUSE and University of Toronto Press (UTP) have announced the expansion of their partnership to make the publisher’s distinguished academic books available on the MUSE platform. Beginning in 2023, UTP - whose journals have been available on MUSE for nearly two decades, is expected to contribute more than 100 new book titles annually to the Project MUSE Annual Frontlist books collections.
UTP is also expected to make a significant quantity of backlist books available on the MUSE platform over the next year, and their titles will be available for purchase individually—direct with MUSE or via distribution partners GOBI and OASIS, through MUSE’s Books Custom Collections model, and for inclusion in Evidence-Based Acquisitions programs.
Canada’s leading academic publisher and one of North America’s largest university presses, UTP is widely recognized, both at home throughout the US, for its strength in history, political science, sociology, Indigenous studies, and cultural studies. Internationally, UTP is known as a leading publisher of medieval, Renaissance, Italian, Iberian, Slavic, and urban studies, as well as studies in book and print culture. UTP titles will enhance many Project MUSE strengths across this broad variety of humanities and social science disciplines.
The University of Toronto Press has partnered with Project MUSE for dissemination of its journal content since 2003, and was the first Canadian press to have its titles on the MUSE platform. Currently, 33 of UTP’s journal titles have been selected for MUSE’s curated journal collections and are available to libraries via a number of collection subscription options.
The first book titles from UTP are expected to arrive on the MUSE platform this year, and will be available for immediate purchase through variety of flexible acquisition models.
