Thomson Reuters releases 2008 Journal Citation Reports -

The Healthcare & Science business of Thomson Reuters, US, has announced the release of the 2008 Journal Citation Reports, available to subscribers of the JCR. These metrics have come to define journal performance across disciplines and institutions worldwide. The 2008 JCR contains more than 400 new titles, including more than 350 titles that will have their first published Journal Impact Factor.

The release of the 2008 Journal Citation Reports includes the first-ever update to the newly introduced Five Year Impact Factor and Eigenfactor Metrics in JCR Web. Eigenfactor Metrics use citing journal data from the entire JCR file to reflect the prestige and citation influence of journals by considering scholarly literature as a network of journal-to-journal relationships.

JCR presents quantitative data that provide an objective way to evaluate the world's leading journals and their impact and influence in the global research community. In addition to the benefits these metrics offer to authors and institutions, JCR and Impact Factors may be used by publishers to benchmark journal performance against competitors to create a better focused market strategy.

JCR covers more than 8,000 of the world's most highly cited, peer-reviewed journals from 66 nations. The production of the 2008 JCR included the analysis of more than 44 million cited references from journals, and proceedings.
