Three new customers opt for ebrary’s services for distribution of digitised material -

Digital content products and technologies provider ebrary, US, has announced that Wellesley College, DuocUC and Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics have selected its content hosting services to distribute a variety of digitised materials online.

Wellesley College is preserving a number of heavily used texts that are out of print, damaged, or brittle for anytime, anywhere access by their students, professors and staff. DuocUC, a non-profit institute of higher education established by Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, will archive over 500 Spanish-language theses published in 2008 and later in a broad range of subject areas. These include business and administration, computing, construction, health, natural resources, technology, telecommunications, and tourism. Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester (UK) will make academic papers, informational items, posters and other proceedings from a 2010 conference it is hosting freely available to academics and the public.

Hosted services are observed to be increasing in popularity for many libraries, corporations, and other organisations. This is because they are seen to offer a quick, easy and affordable alternative to purchasing expensive equipment, hiring engineers and technicians, and utilising staff time to provide maintenance and support. ebrary was one of the first companies to offer hosted services to institutions for their own digitised materials. The company’s Content Hosting Services seek to provide a quick and pain-free way to create a highly interactive, online digital repository.
