UNAM signs open access agreement with Taylor & Francis to expand global reach of research -

Researchers at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) will gain increased global visibility for their work under a new three-year open access (OA) agreement with academic publisher Taylor & Francis. The arrangement allows UNAM-affiliated authors to publish OA articles in more than 2,400 journals across the Taylor & Francis and Routledge portfolios.

The agreement marks Taylor & Francis' first read-and-publish partnership in Mexico. It ensures that the university’s academic community retains access to the full range of subscription content while enabling OA publication in both hybrid and fully open access journals. Articles published through the agreement will be made immediately available to readers worldwide.

The initiative supports UNAM’s strategic goal of expanding its role as an international center for research and innovation by removing financial barriers for researchers and promoting unrestricted access to scholarly outputs. It is expected to benefit disciplines where funding for article processing charges is often limited.

A representative from UNAM’s General Directorate of Libraries and Digital Information Services (DGBSDI) noted that the agreement aims to exempt university researchers from publication fees while also broadening the domestic and international dissemination of their scientific and cultural contributions.

Taylor & Francis stated that the partnership will help ensure wider access to UNAM's research, which spans a range of fields including artificial intelligence, nanoscience, renewable energy, and public health.

UNAM joins over 1,000 institutions globally—and more than 100 in the Americas—that support OA publishing through Taylor & Francis agreements. The publisher continues to collaborate with academic institutions and consortia worldwide to support open research initiatives.
