Universities in Germany gain access to the Cochrane Library -

STM and scholarly publisher Wiley-Blackwell, US, and the Universitätsbibliothek Johann Christian Senckenberg in Frankfurt, Germany, have announced an agreement for The Cochrane Library. Under the deal, more than 650,000 students and faculty at 47 universities in Germany will gain access to The Cochrane Library, published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Cochrane Collaboration.

This German National Academic Opt-In Consortium is open to all academic institutions and university clinics in Germany and allows access to The Cochrane Library for the period from 2010 to 2019. So far 47 institutions have agreed to the deal and more may follow in the future. The German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Central Medical Library (ZB MED) are providing a substantial part of the funding to enable academic institutions to get access at a moderate cost. The Cochrane Library is available to the universities in Germany via www.thecochranelibrary.com.

The Cochrane Library is a collection of regularly updated evidence-based healthcare databases, including the gold-standard Cochrane Systematic Reviews. It seeks to help healthcare professionals to make informed decisions about treatments.
