University of California Press partners with the UC Global Health Institute to launch new OA journal, Advances in Global Health -

The University of California Press (UC Press) has announced a partnership with the UC Global Health Institute (UCGHI) to develop a new transdisciplinary, open access journal, Advances in Global Health, that will showcase the latest research devoted to improving worldwide health outcomes. The founding editor-in-chief will be Dr. Craig Cohen, Professor in the UC San Francisco Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences and Co-Director of UCGHI. In the coming months, Dr. Cohen will be forming an international editorial team to lead the journal, which will be framed by addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The COVID-19 pandemic highlights the necessity to apply transdisciplinary approaches that include biomedical sciences, social sciences, humanities, economics, engineering, and law to address the current global health crisis and guide policy to minimize harms and improve health. The planned scope of the journal will concentrate on several of the UN SDGs addressing areas that will benefit from multiple perspectives. Some examples include climate change, food insecurity, availability of clean water, environmental degradation, under-resourced health systems, and solutions to overcome these challenges such as universal health coverage.

This partnership has been announced in advance of the 2020 UC Global Health Day virtual conference taking place May 2, 2020.
