University of Fukui joins F1000’s Japan Institutional Gateway as an affiliate -

The University of Fukui has become the latest institution to join F1000’s Japan Institutional Gateway (JIG) as an affiliate, aligning with the University of Tsukuba in this innovative open research publishing venture. The Japan Institutional Gateway, founded and supported by the University of Tsukuba, is a dual-language (English/Japanese) platform that enhances the visibility of research and fosters international collaboration.

By becoming an affiliate of JIG, the University of Fukui has opened up opportunities for its researchers to publish their work on this pioneering platform, accessible at https://f1000research.com/gateways/japan-institutional-gateway. This move follows the footsteps of other esteemed institutions, including Saitama University, Tokai University, Tsukuba University of Technology, University of Toyama, and Utsunomiya University, all of whom affiliated with JIG in 2023.

JIG, launched in August 2022 with the support of the University of Tsukuba, provides a rapid and transparent publishing avenue for researchers across various disciplines. Notably, researchers in humanities and social sciences can choose to publish their articles in either Japanese or English, showcasing their work in a Scopus-indexed, international venue that aligns with the language that best suits their research.

One of JIG's founding principles is to increase the global visibility of research written in Japanese. The University of Fukui's decision to join the initiative aligns with its long-standing strategy and programs focused on fostering international collaboration and promoting its students and research on a global scale.

JIG incorporates rapid publication through post-publication peer review, ensuring quality and transparency with rigorous pre-publication checks, open peer review, archiving, and indexing. All outputs published on JIG adhere to open licenses, guaranteeing free access and maximizing the potential for use and re-use.

This innovative publishing model mirrors the approach taken by F1000 on customized publishing platforms provided for major global funders, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome, and the European Commission. The University of Fukui's affiliation with JIG underscores its commitment to advancing research visibility and collaboration on an international scale.
