Faculty and students at the Finland-based University of Turku now have access to 75 online multidisciplinary resources from ProQuest. It is the first university in the Scandinavian region to adopt this expansive selection of primary sources – the same sources that are staples in the world’s most prominent academic libraries.
Turku, an internationally known research institution and member of the Coimbra Group of multidisciplinary universities, now has access to core collections such as the Art & Architecture Archive, British Periodicals, Early European Books, an extensive selection of historical newspapers, periodicals, global studies databases and many more.
The university chose these databases after an in-depth analysis of their curriculum using a model developed by ProQuest. The analysis identifies gaps and offers specific examples of databases that could be used by students and faculty, ultimately helping the university acquire exactly what it needs to improve research, teaching and learning outcomes.
Turku will also benefit from an evidence-based acquisition model that enables the library to dramatically expand access to primary sources overnight while steadily building their owned collections based on usage. This will help them stay within budget and support the need for both immediate access and long-term ownership.
