The University of Virginia (UVA) has entered into an agreement to provide its research community with access to LeapSpace™, Elsevier’s AI‑driven research workspace. The platform is designed to support multiple stages of the research process, including discovery, evidence evaluation, and critical analysis.
LeapSpace integrates more than 20 million peer‑reviewed articles and books from Elsevier, alongside licensed content from over 1,000 partners and millions of records from more than 7,000 publishers indexed in Scopus. Results are linked to original sources and citations, ensuring transparency and informed scholarly judgment.
The initiative reflects UVA’s commitment to advancing research through new technologies that enhance teaching, learning, and discovery. It also highlights the role of the University of Virginia Library, which provides faculty and students with resources, expertise, and services across the research lifecycle. The Library’s ongoing work includes curating collections, supporting digital scholarship, advancing open research, preserving knowledge, and guiding the community in the use of emerging technologies. Adding LeapSpace builds on this foundation by offering another tool to strengthen research and learning.
Leo S. Lo, Dean of University of Virginia Libraries, noted that faculty, students, and researchers require access to credible sources and thoughtful support as they evaluate how AI technologies can contribute to their work. He emphasized that making LeapSpace available through the Library provides the community with an additional resource while maintaining a focus on transparency, critical judgment, and responsible research practices.
